You had to assume it was coming after they gave him an A to sew on his sweater.

Number 7, Brent Seabrook, was given an eight-year contract extension on Saturday, aimed at keeping the defenseman in Blackhawks Red through the end of the 2023-2024 season.

The 30 year-old has an impressive resume. He was a key part of all three recent Stanley Cup wins. He has franchise records for pre-, regular- and post-season goals by a defenseman. He won a gold medal for Canada in 2010. He rocked the fan vote last year to make his first All-Star Game. And of course, this season sees him officially joining the leadership corps of the Blackhawks…though he’s been a leader on the ice for years.

Seabs was a first-round pick in the 2003 Draft, taken with the 14th overall pick by Chicago. He has skated in 763 regular-season games since then.

By the way…

Saturday the team also sent forward Tanner Kero to the Rockford IceHogs, and released defenseman Jan Hejda. This puts the active roster at 36: 21 forwards, 12 defensemen and three goalies.

And on Sunday, the Stanley Cup was engraved with the names of the Blackhawks for the third time in six seasons.
