Report: Notre Dame-Michigan football rivalry to be revived

The University of Notre Dame and the University of Michigan might renew one of the deepest rivalries in college football in 2018.

Ryan Krasnoo with Sports Illustrated tweeted the news late Wednesday night, attributing to an unnamed source.

The two teams, which first played each other in 1887, last met on the field in 2014 when the Irish recorded their first-ever shutout of the Wolverines.

Due to Notre Dame’s current schedule of opponents, a long-term resumption of the Michigan rivalry is unlikely. However, a single game between the schools, possibly in the Shamrock Series, is being tossed around as a definite possibility, according to UHND.com.

Of course, everything about the potential matchup is pure speculation until the formal announcement, which is expected around noon Thursday.
