The Crimestoppers Crime of the Week focuses on preventive tips for college students

Sexual assaults on college campuses take a number of forms.
Crimestoppers reminds students that any unwelcome attention, such as a stolen kiss, should be met with a clear message. Many sexual crimes on college campuses are committed by someone who knows the victim, according to Officer Kayla Miller of Crimestoppers. Situations can get out of hand and stop signs are often ignored, leading to unwelcome contact up to and including unwanted sexual acts. And in many of those cases, Miller says, victims will feel like they are to blame and will fail to report it or address it with the perpetrator later.
Thursday morning on Truth Radio 1340 Miller detailed a number of strategies for staying safe on campus, how to fight back safely and smartly, and how to deal with the aftermath of an event. Most importantly, students who feel they have been victimized should seek assistance from a campus resource officer, security officer or even the police. Ignoring the event could have a serious effect on their peace of mind, their studies and their life.
For more information on sexual assault issues and campus resources, students should speak with campus administration.
The Crimestoppers Crime of the Week update is heard at 8:10 every Thursday morning on the Truth Radio Early Edition.
