Jennifer Torr, a young student at the University of Notre Dame, is backpacking her way across France in the summer of her Sophomore year. During a violent storm she seeks shelter in a long-forgotten underground wine cellar. She samples a couple of bottles and finds a leathery old book stashed on the racks. After the book comes into her life a series of grisly murders begin.
