Monday night. Big fat snowflakes are falling outside. Some KFC chicken has been erased from existence. The animals are asleep. And the Beloved Kim and I just finished rewatching the first Iron Man, still arguably one of the best MCU flicks, if not the top of the list.
Something has occurred to my cynical little bag of brain:

The villainous Obidiah Stane, portrayed quite well by Jeff Bridges, is probably responsible for saving trillions of lives across the universe.
Think about it. If he doesn't hire the Ten Rings guys to kill Tony, then Iron Man isn't created in a cave outside Golmira.(Gulmira?) No Iron Man at least curtails the creation of The Avengers, and his role in the group is key to their success.
And as has been pointed out by Dr. Strange, the only way to thwart Thanos after he gathers the Infinity Stones is for Tony/Iron Man to do what he did at the conclusion of Endgame. Strange viewed millions of possible outcomes. Iron Man making with the snap was the only win.
No Stane, no victory over Thanos.
